Real tennis – Real fun – Real competition.

The game of kings is still being played on a court near you! The Hyde Real Tennis Court located in the village of Walditch, near Bridport, houses a thriving tennis club over seen by Club professional Ben Ronaldson and his assistant, Adam Barrett.

Last weekend the club held it’s annual Gundry Doubles Tournament sponsored by the ancestor of the court’s originator, John Gundry.

This handicap tournament allows all standards of players to take part in a competitive but socially enjoyable format.

There was an extremely good turn-out of 32 competitors with 4 round- robin stages taking place from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning and quarter, semi and a superb final which took place on Sunday afternoon.

After closely fought matches especially in the semi-finals, Tom Fletcher and Clive Thurtell were victorious in overcoming the partnership of John Mackenzie and Al Clark in the final.

In another well supported handicap competition, last month, the winners of the Chaffyn-Grove Doubles were mother and son combination of Jane and Nicky Milton who defeated one of this month’s Gundry Doubles winner’s, Clive Thurtell and Jez Brodie.
