Tristram FitzGerald became the new sponsor of the February Doubles this year with his company ‘Cutting Edge Tree Care’. Tris not only supplied two fantastic lunches over the weekend, but also managed to get into the semi-finals with his partner Stephen Grier before the wheels fell off against the ever-present Hands.
There were 37 people in the tournament this year (slightly odd for a doubles tournament, but luckily John Pengelly was in high demand. After the four groups had battled it out over Friday, Saturday and Sunday the knock-out stages then shunted Dickinson and Pescod into the semis against Jamie Day and Peter Kent. The Kents often make the trip down from Abingdon to play in our doubles weekends, but often without a whiff of the quarter finals, but this time Peter prevailed with his youthful partner and managed to get to the finals against the Hands.
Terry and Lucian (former winners of the Gundry doubles) had only just squeaked through the group stages, but were seemingly building momentum throughout the weekend. Ultimately they fell thuogh as Jamie Day managed to return some crazy shots in the final and took the match with Peter 8/2.
Guy Mallinson snatched the prize for most grilles over the course of the weekend.
Thanks once again to Tristram and all his hard work!
